Game Recap: Softball |

Devils Split Four League Games Over The Weekend

The Red Devils played two games on the road and two at home and in-between traveled quite a few miles.  After dropping two games to Southwestern Oregon in Coos Bay on Saturday, LCC came home and won two games with Chemeketa on Sunday.

Saturday April 2

(Coos Bay, OR) – The SWOC Lakers won the first game 4-2 and took the nightcap 9-2.

In the first game, LCC starter Jade Behic gave up two-run homers in the second and third inning. Other than that, Behic did a great job holding the potent Lakers offense down.

At the plate, Behic did her part with a pair of solo homers to lead the offense.

The second game featured a scary moment in the first inning when Red Devil starter Rylee Peters was struck in the side by a screaming line drive right back at her.  Peters was able to walk off the field on her own power but was taken to a Coos Bay hospital for observation.  She was later released and made the trip home with her teammates.

Pressed into action the circle, Darby DeRuyter found the Laker offense in full steam.  SWOCC scored nine runs on 15 hits.

Katie Adkins led the LCC offense with two doubles and two RBI's.

Sunday April 3

(Kelso, WA) – After getting back to Longview at about 11:00 pm Saturday night, the Devils had a quick turnaround for an 11:00 am home double header on Sunday.

The Storm came out of the gates scoring three runs on four hits off Behic.  The Devils responded with two runs in their half of the 1st, including a 250-foot home run by Katelyn McGough leading off. LCC added three more runs in the 2nd to go ahead 5-3, keyed by an Emily Panush 2-run triple, and never looked back. Behic then shut down Chemeketa with six scoreless innings to get the win in a 9-3 victory.

McGough had three hits, adding a single and double later in the game. The Devils had 15 hits in the game.

Behic was 2 for 4. Ada Williams had two hits and an RBI suicide squeeze bunt.  Mallory Brown and Destiny Dunlap had two hits each. Dunlap drove in two..

The second game was scoreless after two innings, before the Devils broke through with two runs in the 3rd on an Ada Williams sac fly and Adkins RBI double.  LCC added two more in the 4th inning on a McGough sacrifice fly and Behic's RBI single.

Ada Williams two-run single in the 6th provided insurance, plating cousin Kennedy Williams who had slapped a double and McGough who had singled..

DeRuyter was excellent in the circle as she allowed just one run on four hits in the complete game victory. She benefited from three double plays: Shortstop Adkins starting a 6-4-3, 2B Jada Cargo-Acosta initiating a 4-6-3 and 1B Brown fielding a bunt to start a 3-4-5 twin killing - with Cargo-Acosta rifling a perfect throw across the diamond to 3B Ada Williams, who dropped the tag on a Storm runner trying to go from first to third on a bunt.

With the two wins on Sunday, LCC is now 4-2 in league play.  The Devils are slated to host Clark in a twin bill on Wednesday at 3 pm.  That game was originally set for Tuesday, but moved back a day due to heavy rains Monday and early Tuesday.
