Earlier this season the Southwestern Oregon Lakers were not pleased when the LCC softball team came to Coos Bay and handed them a pair of losses.
The Devils now know how they feel.
SWOCC took a pair of games from the Devils on Wednesday May 4th at Kelso's Tam O'Shanter Park. The scores were 14-5 (5) and 6-5.
After both teams plated runs in the first inning of the first game, SWOC scored five in the second and three in the third and fourth innings to blow it open. Shavon DeFreitas hit her 21st homer and she pitched four solid innings to get the victory.
The game marked the end of
Ashley Kelly's amazing school-record 32 game hitting streak.
Top of the order slappers
Nicole Bolasky and
Shyanne Chandler led LCC with two hits each. Bolasky stole a base to increase her school-record total to 50.
Madison Barr had a solo homer for the Devils.
In game two, Bolasky added three more thefts to pad the total to 53. The Devils were in control with a 4-0 lead and
Krystina Fischer pitching a shutout through four innings.
Then the 5th came.
SW Oregon scored all six of thier runs in the fateful inning, including Bobbi Bertsch with a three run homer. Fischer settled down after that, but a Red Devil rally fell short.
Fischer gave up six hits and six runs in her complete outing, although three of the runs were unearned. Her record dropped to 15-3 on the season.
Kelly started a new hitting streak by going 2 for 4 including a solo homer. Bolasky and
Jessica Gibson also had two hits each for the D's.
LCC will try and bounce back strong when they travel to Vancouver for a double header with the Clark Penguins on Saturday May 7th. The action begins at 12 pm on the Clark campus.
